San Francisco, 26 February, 2025 - Now in its third year, the Apple Vision Accessibility Report Card is the only report of its kind to focus specifically on the needs of people who are blind, DeafBlind, or have low vision. Its aim is to provide Apple and other key stakeholders with insights into the real-world experience of this user group.
To compile the ratings and comments included in the report card, AppleVis conducted a comprehensive survey where blind, DeafBlind, and low vision participants rated their experience using Apple's major platforms (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS) with the available vision accessibility features included in the software. The survey also included questions that assessed Apple's performance in addressing vision-related bugs, as well as the new accessibility features added in 2024 for blind, DeafBlind, and low vision users. Additionally, participants were invited to provide detailed written feedback and suggestions for enhancing Apple's vision accessibility features and user experience.
Overall, participants reported highest levels of satisfaction with VoiceOver, braille, and low vision features and user experience on iOS and iPadOS, as well as with the new accessibility features introduced by Apple in 2024; whereas macOS, tvOS, and watchOS saw lower levels of satisfaction. While not as low as in previous years, participants also reported less satisfaction with Apple’s performance in addressing VoiceOver, braille, and low vision-related bugs in 2024.
“The Apple Vision Accessibility Report Card provides a platform for blind, DeafBlind, and low vision users to speak openly and honestly about where Apple is doing well and where they need to improve,” said Michael Hansen, Director of AppleVis. “It is our hope that the 2024 report card will be the starting point for productive discussions in and outside of Apple and influence Apple’s 2025 accessibility roadmap for positive change.”
