A little over a year since the successful debut of Be My AI in our Android and iOS apps, Be My Eyes is now taking another giant step forward with the launch of its Be My Eyes app on Windows desktop, on the Microsoft Store. Officially being unveiled at Microsoft’s Build Week in Seattle, this innovative tool brings the Be My AI feature of the iOS and Android app onto your desktop, promising to redefine the way you can get unprecedented visual description on your personal computer.

The Be My Eyes app offers a number of features designed to provide rich visual descriptions to people who are blind or have low vision. From photos and graphs to screenshots, the app employs OpenAI’s GPT-4 with Vision model to deliver detailed descriptions, and present visual content in a more useful way.

Be My Eyes for Windows is available starting today. You can download it onto your Windows 10/11 PC through the Microsoft Store.

How it Works

With the Be My Eyes for Windows app, people who are blind or have low vision can now receive rapid, automated descriptions of screen elements, photographs and diagrams through AI-based natural language conversations, directly on their Windows 10/11 PC. By providing AI-powered descriptions of images and graphics, coupled with an interactive chatbot feature, the Be My Eyes app can be used for a wide variety of tasks, in a lot of different situations. Here's just a few ways in which it can be used:

  1. Describe Your Screen: whether it's an application interface or a web page layout, you can now get detailed descriptions through which you can now grasp any visual elements with ease.
  2. Describe Local Images: From family photos to documents, you can now simply upload images to the Be My Eyes app  and receive comprehensive descriptions in return, in a matter of seconds.
  3. Describe Online Images: Browsing the web becomes more inclusive as the Be My Eyes app seamlessly describes online images, ensuring no visual content goes undescribed.
  4. Help You Get Ready for Video Calls: By using a connected or built in camera, the Be My Eyes app can describe how you look to the camera, are you centered, or is the lighting ok, prior to a live video call.

And much more! Now it’s a conversation. Be My Eyes goes beyond mere description, allowing users to ask follow-up questions and delve deeper into the content being described. This interactive feature enhances engagement and fosters a more dedicated user experience for people who are blind or have low vision.

‍"The new Be My Eyes for Windows app will soon become an essential resource for accessing all the information on the desktop” said Andy Lane, Be My Eyes user. “Over the coming months, it will become an essential resource for accessing a ton of information on your Windows PC, be it photos, graphs, screenshots or web pages. It’s set to become a valuable tool for anyone who is blind or has low vision!”.
