We’re finding ourselves in times of uncertainty - People living with sight loss especially have to find new ways to cope with daily accessibility barriers without having access to their normal support network. At Be My Eyes, we want to give people who are blind or have low vision some extra support in these challenging times. That’s why we’re delighted to welcome four new blind organizations to Be My Eyes, which along with the NFB, broadens our connection to local populations by giving them access to expert advice.

Blind and low-vision users can now contact the American Council of Blind People, who joins NFB as the second blind organization in the US on Be My Eyes. Users in the UK can now connect with advisors of the Royal National Institute of Blind People, the national blind organization of the UK, as well as the regional organization Galloway’s Society for Blind People that offers its services to people with sight loss in Lancashire and Sefton. Later this week, we’ll also be adding LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in San Francisco.

All four organizations are devoted to bringing independence and security to blind and low-vision individuals in their area. Whether you need advice on how to cope with a new way of living as a blind individual, or you need assistance with any of the organizations’ specific services, their staff members are ready and happy to connect with you.

The ACB team is ready to take calls in English from all US users Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM EDT. RNIB is available for blind and low-vision users in the UK for assistance in English, and the support line will be open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM BST. The Galloway’s team is ready to connect with blind and low-vision users in the UK Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM BST. To see what companies and organizations are available in your region, please access the Specialized Help menu through the Be My Eyes app - Specialized Help is the second button on the blind user’s home screen.

If you have other requests for companies or organizations to become part of Specialized Help, please fill out our Specialized Help submission form, and we’ll do our best to include them on the platform.
