About Us - Be My Eyes

Making the world more accessible

Be My Eyes connects people who are blind or have low vision with volunteers and companies worldwide through live video and artificial intelligence.

Our Mission

Empowering people through human connection

Our mission is to make the world more accessible for the 340 million people who are blind or have low vision. By connecting them to sighted volunteers and companies, through AI and video, they can tackle the inaccessible parts of everyday life, whether at home or at work – all for free.
Our Values
Our community of blind and low-vision people first

We develop our products ‘with’ and not ‘for’ our community. Our North Star is to serve the needs of that community as we discover them together – even if it means disrupting our assumptions, thinking and business model.

Free for end-users

We’re committed to providing our tools and services to the blind and low-vision community without charging them.

Impact for business

True and equal accessibility means good business too. That’s why we always strive for great business outcomes.

We’re builders and owners

We operate fast and efficiently, pay attention to the details, and take responsibility for everything we do.

We like to lead

We work hard to lead and to push the boundaries, because the community we serve deserves it.

Failure is necessary

Mistakes are part of pushing boundaries, learning and growing. No risk means no progress.

A positive environment

We’re serious about being kind, but laughter and fun are always part of the mix.

Our Story

The Be My Eyes story

Be My Eyes started with a simple idea: to make the world more accessible for people who are blind or have low vision through the power of connection.

The idea came from Hans Jørgen Wiberg, a Danish craftsman with low vision. While working with The Danish Association of the Blind, Hans noticed how often people needed a little visual assistance for everyday tasks. A friend shared how video calls with family helped him get that assistance, and Hans saw an opportunity: what if people who are blind or have low vision could connect with a global network of volunteers, ready to lend their sight?

In 2015, the Be My Eyes app was launched and, within 24 hours, 10,000 volunteers had signed up. Today, millions of volunteers support users in over 180 languages – proving that a little help goes a long way.
