Today, more than 200,000 people who are blind or have a low level of vision have signed up for Be My Eyes to get visual support from volunteers and company representatives. Be My Eyes empowers people with sight loss to lead independent lives and achieve their full potential.

A blind or low-vision Be My Eyes user might just be 1 out of 200,000, but for that person, accessibility tools like Be My Eyes makes a huge difference by making a world that is not designed for people with disabilities more accessible. Here at Be My Eyes, we love to hear stories from blind and low-vision users about how Be My Eyes empowers them in their daily lives.

Take Chris for example, also known as The Blind Woodturner. On his YouTube channel, he shares his woodturning projects with the world, and Be My Eyes plays an important role in making sure that he’s using the right wood, the right color, etc. For Jennifer, Be My Eyes has helped her grow her jewellery business, as she independently can match gemstones, which are her primary material.

Yuki, originally from Japan, has lived in the US for the last 14 years. Through Be My Eyes, she can connect to a Japanese speaking volunteer, who can help her stay in touch with her heritage. Inspiring Ilango is a local celebrity in India and works as a motivational speaker. Be My Eyes gives him confidence in knowing that he’s looking his best before going on stage.

Wenwei is a curious person who loves to travel and learn new things. Be My Eyes has empowered her to fully experience Latin America as well as learn how to knit. Last but not least, Michal, an attorney from Chicago, often runs across inaccessible materials in his job. But with Be My Eyes, he can get all the information he needs from inaccessible graphs and tables to build a strong case.

Whether you are a blind or low-vision user or a volunteer, we hope that being a member of the Be My Eyes Community empowers you in your life - whether it is to live life to your full potential or for the possibility to connect and help a neighbour. And don’t remember to spread the word, so we can welcome and empower even more people in the Be My Eyes Community.
